Out of the Frying Pan...and into the fire. “To get out of a bad situation and end up in one that is even worse.” This old English ‘idiom’ perhaps has been used more as a ‘cliche’ rather than putting real meaning behind these words that were put together for a purpose. We humans tend to take a situation and rather than face it head on, try to cover up, hide or make light of, waiting for a change or hoping the situation will go away completely. News Flash! It’s not going to! God has a purpose and a plan for our life and that includes many lessons we need to learn, hence the need to walk through a situation instead of trying to go around, under or over.
What situation continues to come up over and over for you? Are you looking to God’s Word for strength? Job went through more than enough for all of us. He sometimes cried out to God in despair and then thanked Him for the opportunity to go through the situation knowing God would have the glory through it all. “With God are wisdom and strength; He has counsel and understanding.” Job 12:13 (NRSV).
This issue of Chattanooga Christian Family magazine is full of Good News. We have received stories from several women in the Chattanooga area that have faced breast cancer. Each situation is different on many levels although the strength they found through prayer, family and friends is the same. Relying on faith and knowing that there was no getting around this mountain, they chose to face it head on with determination.
Covering up, lying or trying to hide when facing a situation that seems scary, only delays the lesson and most of the time makes the situation worse. Stand up, gird yourself with the strength that can only come from God and live your life the way He is asking you to.
“On the day I called, you answered me, you increased my strength of soul.” Psa 138:3 (NRSV)
